๐Ÿ—“๏ธ The 8-Week Study Plan

Every module here is open, so you can jump anywhere โ€” but for the highest score, follow a structured path. This plan sequences the 12 modules from foundations to advanced, pairs each with the matching problem sets in your Official Guide to the GRE (4th ed.) and 5 lb Book of GRE Practice Problems, and builds in review and full-length tests. Compress it into 4โ€“5 weeks by doubling up, or stretch it to 12 by halving the daily load.

๐ŸŽฏ The learning loop for every module

  1. Learn here โ€” read Theory & Strategy, then the four Worked Examples.
  2. Practice here โ€” do all 12 practice questions; check each one and read the full solution even when you're right.
  3. Reinforce in your books โ€” do the matching topic set in the 5 lb book (and the Official Guide's practice for that area).
  4. Prove it here โ€” take the module's timed self-test; aim to clear the mastery goals (โ‰ฅ70% easy, โ‰ฅ60% medium).
  5. Log & recycle โ€” record every miss in the Error Log; let spaced repetition resurface it.

1How your three books fit together

ResourceBest used for
๐Ÿ“˜ This appYour spine: structured theory, strategy, worked examples, adaptive practice, spaced repetition, and progress tracking. Start every topic here.
๐Ÿ“— 5 lb Book of GRE Practice Problems (Manhattan)Your volume engine. It's organized into big topic chapters of practice problems (Number Properties, Fractions/Decimals/Percents, Algebra, Word Problems, Geometry, Data Interpretation, plus Quantitative Comparison and mixed sets). Use it to drill each topic to fluency after you've learned it here.
๐Ÿ“• Official Guide to the GRE, 4th ed. (ETS)Your authenticity check. It has a concise Math Review (Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Data Analysis), real ETS practice questions by type, and full-length paper practice tests โ€” plus the free POWERPREP online tests. Because these are real ETS questions, weight them most heavily as you get close to test day.

โšก The rule of thumb

Learn a topic here โ†’ grind it in the 5 lb book โ†’ validate with Official Guide / POWERPREP. Official ETS questions are the most predictive of your real score, so save a chunk of them for the final two weeks.

Page and chapter numbers differ between printings โ€” use each book's Table of Contents to find the topic named in the tables below.

โš ๏ธ Don't skip Data Interpretation

DI questions (graphs & tables) appear on every test and lean on the Statistics and Percentages modules. The 5 lb book has a dedicated Data Interpretation chapter and the Official Guide covers it under Data Analysis โ€” build both into Weeks 6โ€“7. See the DI tactics on the Strategy page.

4A repeatable daily rhythm (~90 minutes)

MinutesActivity
0โ€“10Warm-up: clear your due spaced-repetition questions.
10โ€“35Learn: new theory + worked examples for the day's module.
35โ€“60Practice here: module practice questions with instant feedback.
60โ€“85Drill in your book: the matching 5 lb / Official Guide set, mostly untimed while learning, timed as you improve.
85โ€“90Log: write every mistake and its lesson in the Error Log.

โšก Quality > quantity

Reviewing a wrong answer until you understand why the trap worked is worth more than ten fresh problems. Every miss should end with a one-line rule in your error log. That log is your personalized final-review sheet.

5Six habits of 165+ scorers

  1. Read every solution, even when correct. There's often a faster method than the one you used.
  2. Time yourself progressively. Learn untimed, then hold ~1:45/question, then push slightly faster to build a buffer.
  3. Keep an error log and re-test from it. Your mistakes cluster โ€” kill the pattern, not just the instance.
  4. Prioritize official ETS questions (Official Guide + POWERPREP) as test day nears โ€” they're the most predictive.
  5. Master the tactics, not just the math โ€” Plug In, Backsolve, estimate, eliminate. See the Strategy page.
  6. Simulate the real thing at least twice before test day: full length, timed, both sections, minimal breaks.
